We have £60 of Amazon vouchers to spend and no clue what to buy with them.
This is really rare.
Stu was going to spend his half on GTA Vice City, but he has that now, so he doesn't know what we should get either.
The only thing I know I want is the Rainbow book. I don't have a clue about anything else. I have vague ideas about "What not to wear" (apparently it's good and tells you what you should wear depending on your shape : but I can't afford to get a whole new wardrobe, so what's the point in acquiring such knowledge?). Also wouldn't mind a dance mat and playstation game (although how often would I really use it?) or a couple of books, "An unquiet mind" and "Once in a house on fire" (one of my favourite books but I don't own it personally).
Or maybe I should just give up and wait until Sex and the City series 4 comes out on DVD.
So basically I want ideas of books. I don't like romance books or trashy books, I like books about real people, things that move you, or books that you just can't put down. Mental illness and babies are, I guess, my favourite topics :P Or just comedy, such as Bridget Jones. Or biographies by non-celebrities about their unusual childhoods or something.
If anyone has any recommendations please speak now!
Also, what dance mats & games are good?? Are they the sort of thing you buy and only use once, like all the other exercise videos/dvds/books I have purchased??

Update : I have ordered :
"She's Come Undone"
Rainbow Climbing High
"Good Girls Do Swallow"
Jack Dee - Live At The Apollo

(Stuie let me have £10 of his share, bless him, since he couldn't find anything else he wanted)

I bought the What Not To Wear book for my mum for Christmas and she loves it. It basically splits the book into sections ie: big boobs, long legs, flabby tummy and gives you pictures showing the worst things to wear and the best things to wear. Not sure how much the book is on Amazon, I bought it off Ebay for my mum for £9 which wasn't a bad price really but ... hmm .... if you've got £30 to play about with. I guess it's up to you really.
I've never tried the dance mat things but I'd love to give them a go!!

Re:
Its less than that, it's about £6 :)
I want everything now. I just remembered that I wanted Jack Dee's new DVD so I have pretty much mentally spent my money on a book (not sure which yet), the Rainbow book and that DVD!
I would love a dance mat too. It's just a shame that I know I'd only use it a couple of times :( Maybe I will treat myself if/when I earn some money..
You may be able to help me with something actually. A few months ago I listed some old books on Amazon marketplace. They were shite and none of them ever sold. But just after I listed them I got a weird sealed bit of paper from Amazon with a code on which I have now lost. Do I need that to list any more stuff? Need to make money and de-clutter!!

ooh my cousin got the dancemat thingy for christmas. was very funny. :)
i have pictures on my camera, but sadly i do not have the lead with me.

seems like a good idea for a game, but bit of a pointless thing to spend money on (or vouchers). i mean, can't you just dance by yourself? :P or indeed with stu!

Re:
Well I don't know, Amazon seems to have them for £30 for the game and mat (which is too much) but I am waiting until someone recommends one.
I doubt I'll get it anyway.
And no I can't dance by myself, and that's not nearly as much fun anyway :P

My brother has a dance mat but I've never used it as I'm terribly unfit and would probably die if I used it. It does look fun though, and if you bounce around a bit on it, it would probably be a good keep-fit method.

We sell the game and the matt for £39.99 :o)
Though i'd get 30% off the game and 25% off the mat if I wanted it for me ;o) But then i'd need to buy a playstation to play it on :oP Hmm, I don't think it's worth the saving on the fun stuff :oP

Gah, you're expensive compared to Amazon :P
It's too late now, anyway, I have ordered things that don't involve exercise, much better plan :)

we're more expensive cause we have shops to fund, and staff to pay ;o)

Good plan. Things that you don't have to use much effort to use :o>

When it comes to books, I would seriously recommend "Sleeping With the Enemy" by Nancy Price. It's one of the few that I've had for years and not donated to a charity shop!

Forget about the film, as it's rubbish in comparison, but I would tell anybody and everybody to read "Sleeping With the Enemy".

Re:
Will bear that in mind! Amazon doesnt seem to be selling it at the moment but will look in future. Haven't actually seen the film I don't think, so is a good option :)

Re:
Cool! You will love that book!!

Also I recommend that you buy loads of Loreena McKennit cd's!! She's quite Medieval, and is a wonderful accompaniment to a candlelit dinner!

I would recommend She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb, Foxfire by Joyce Carol Oates and White Oleander by Janet Fitch. Any books by Joanne Harris or Francesca Lia Block are good too.

Re:
Thanks :) "She's come undone" looks especially good and I am now toying between buying several books, argh!
I read "Violet and Claire" and it disappointed me :( I don't know what I was expecting it to be. Will have to read another of her books before passing any real judgement though..

I have, I am going to read it again soon actually. It scared the hell out of me and made me feel sick, but at the same time those are the best books really aren't they, as they stay with you..

i've never had any desire to diet or exercise or lose weight or anything, even though my body isn't exactly as i'd like it. so i don't identify with her at all. but it's still a fascinating book to read, and i recognise bits of her in various lj friends, which is quite scary.

i don't really identify, either. but i still like books on that sort of thing, even though i'll never understand it.

Re:

you asked me about dance mats :)
.....
the logic 3 dance mat they have at amazon is a good one. trust me, i've owned 3 dance mats. you can get cheap ones for about £10 but i really wouldn't recommend it because they're really crap and useless. i ended up giving mine away
as for games, i have dancing stage euromix and disney mix. i like disney mix better, but they're pretty similar.

i also go with the recommendations for she's come undone and white oleander. and if you're looking for a good flb book, i'd go for echo

i might come up with some more book recommendations if i can ever get some fucking sleep :(

Re:
I did :)
Is there any chance I could borrow some of your FLB books when we next meet up? I will try not to hog them forever..
Ah, the £30 one is not a Logic 3 dance mat. So it'd be £18.99 for the mat and £17.99 for the Disney game. Not bad actually.. maybe one day!

Re:
yeah sure you can borrow them. you can borrow she's come undone and white oleander too if you don't get them.
which is the dance mat you were thinking of getting? they have the picture of the logic 3 one in the bundle i'm looking at. of course that doesn't always mean anything. damn misleading pictures :p

Re:
I have ordered "She's come undone" now. And one called "Good girls do swallow" which is not porn :P
The bundle I was looking at came top of the list when I searched for "dance mat", and it didn't say it was a Logic 3 but I think it came with the Euromix thing? £29.99 for the two..

Re:
yep, it's the logic 3 one or at least they have the picture of the logic 3 one there. maybe you should email them to check?
i want new books now. wah! i have a £10 waterstones voucher but you can't get much for that these days...
seren

Re:
You could probably get 2 books on their "2 for 10" deal. I rememebr when kids books were £1.99 - I had a £15 WH Smith voucher from my Grandma and it was SO much in those days and I bought a tape and lots of books with it.
Not fair!
